What Is a Satellite Tournament?

A satellite awards entry to a target event instead of, or alongside, a conventional cash prize.

THE CORE RULE

How does Satellite work?

When several equal-value seats are awarded, the event may end once all seats are secured. Different satellites use different formats and prize conditions.

Prizes and payouts

A ticket or seat is a non-cash reward until the operator's terms say otherwise. Do not record its advertised face value as cash profit without a stated valuation policy.

This is a tournament structure, not a poker game. The event can use Hold'em, Omaha, or another published game. Always read that event's rules and prize schedule.

AT THE TABLE

A practical example.

A $5 satellite awards ten seats to a $50 event. The tenth qualifying player earns a seat; it is not the same as receiving $50 cash.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

What should you verify?

Confirm target event, seat transferability, expiry, award count, late registration, and any cash alternative.

Operator and venue rules control the exact entry, blind, bounty, payout, and cancellation terms. Poker TDA's tournament procedures cover a different layer of tournament play.
