Flop Texture, Turn Adjustments, and River Decisions
Learning objectiveConnect board changes to value, draws, and bluff-catching.
Understand the idea
A dry flop offers fewer draws; a coordinated flop connects with more straight and flush possibilities. A continuation bet is a bet by the preflop aggressor on the next street when given the opportunity. Use board texture, opponent ranges, position, pot size, and stack depth before choosing a size.
The turn can complete draws or create new ones. Re-evaluate equity and the opponent's continuing range instead of repeating the flop rule. On the river there are no more cards to come: separate value bets, bluffs, and bluff-catching calls. A bluff catcher beats bluffs but loses to likely value holdings.
At the poker table
On K♠ 7♦ 2♣, top pair may value bet against weaker kings. A turn 8♦ adds straight and diamond possibilities; the river decision depends on the actual action sequence.
