Hybrid Bots: Combine Methods Carefully
Learning objectivePlace rules, ranges, equity, and bounded simulation in one safe decision pipeline.
Understand the idea
A hybrid bot can use rules for input validation and fast fallback, position-aware ranges before the flop, equity estimates when a call is close, opponent statistics only when sample sizes support them, and a small Monte Carlo budget for uncertain spots. The final action still passes a legal-action gate.
Set a time budget. If an estimate fails or runs long, use a tested safe rule rather than submitting late. Log which module chose the action to stderr, without credentials. Compare the hybrid with a simpler baseline on repeatable fixtures before live use.
At the poker table
Preflop, use a range rule. On a turn facing a close call, run at most 2,000 simulations. If the deadline is near, fall back to a legal check or fold.

More modules can make a bot less reliable if their outputs conflict or their runtime exceeds the adapter timeout.

Draw your proposed pipeline and state what happens when the equity module errors.
